Immobile is attacked and accuses the Italian press of responsibility (French)

Lazio's Italian captain and top scorer, Ciro Immobile, was pushed and insulted last Wednesday by supporters of the capital club, angry because of the crisis their team is going through, and he accused the local press of being responsible for this assault.

The player's lawyers explained, in a statement, that "Ciro Immobile, his wife Jessica, and his four-year-old son, Mattia, were verbally and physically assaulted by a group of people in front of their son's school," without specifying whether they were injured.

Italian newspapers reported that the Italian international, who holds the record for goals (36 in the 2019-2020 season) scored in the Italian Championship, was pushed last Wednesday on his way to his son’s school, and his wife was insulted Thursday in the streets of Rome.

The statement added, "All of this, unfortunately, comes after incitement to hatred, which is encouraged by part of the press and journalists through their social networks, who spread motives of hatred against Ciro Immobile, and convey facts that do not correspond to reality."

He continued, "After this incident, the player asked his lawyer today, Friday, to initiate criminal proceedings against those responsible for this defamation," especially with regard to the articles that implicitly indicated Immobile's responsibility for coach Maurizio Sarri's resignation from his position in the middle of the week.

He explained, "Such defamatory statements are serious and therefore harmful to his professional and personal image, and will be presented to the competent judge."

The statement concluded that "incitement to hatred, especially without justification, is a crime that must be punished."

Immobile (34 years old) joined Lazio in 2016, and the team is currently ranked ninth in the Italian League before facing Frosinone tomorrow, Saturday. It was also eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Bayern Munich of Germany.
