The Generalitat has relieved the director of the Mas d'Enric penitentiary center (Tarragona), where a cook was murdered on March 13 at the hands of a prisoner who later committed suicide. A crime that provoked a real wave of protests by Catalan prison officials, going so far as to block access to the main penitentiary centers for several consecutive days.

Two weeks after the tragic event, the ERC Government tries to tackle the crisis with the revelation of the head of Mas d'Enric. As reported this Wednesday by the Department of Justice, it was the director of this prison himself (Paco Romero) who has requested to be relieved of his position, after protests in recent days by prison unions demanding resignations.

Justice, in the hands of Gemma Ubasart, affirms that the decision has been "meditated" and agreed upon with the management of the Secretariat of Criminal Measures, Reintegration and Attention to Victims, headed by Amand Calderó. However, prison officials point mainly towards Ubasart and Calderó herself, the two resignations that they demand from the Government to end the protests.

And he recognizes, yes, that "we must face a new stage in the center after the crisis experienced in recent days."
