A former Israeli general said that the war raging in the Gaza Strip has lost its compass and appears to have no goals, stressing the need for the leadership to make a decision regarding it.

The Jerusalem Post newspaper quoted Reserve Major General and former Director of Operations Department in the Israeli army, Israel Ziv, as saying to FM 103 radio that the actions taken by the Israeli forces at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza “mean that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is still... “In practice, it controls the area, and this is the situation there, as is the case, perhaps, in other hospitals.”

He claimed that the Israeli army had already caused damage to Hamas' military capabilities, but added that the movement had thousands of fighters so far, and that civilian control of the territories remained in the hands of the movement, which was still "alive and active."

Withdrawal from Gaza

In response to the radio station’s question about whether it was right to withdraw most of the Israeli forces from Gaza, Ziv answered, asking, “What is the army supposed to do in the absence of any policy?”, adding that more than 5 months have passed since this war without any goal. Predictable political.

He continued, "Assuming we remain there until now, what then? Even if we remain and declare that we are occupiers, we will become the new government in Gaza. Israel, then, must establish civil, police, and security systems and carry out the burdens of various services."

He described the leadership's inability to make decisions as the most dangerous thing facing Israel, not just Hamas. Commenting on Canada's decision to stop arms shipments to his country, he said, "Israel is living in the midst of an extremely dangerous international crisis."

He added that he did not remember a crisis of this magnitude before, and attributed this to a lack not only of advocacy, but also to the fact that Israel was plunged into a deep crisis as a result of the lack of policies.

Dangerous situation

Ziv added, "Everything indicates that the government does not make policy decisions, and it is not only us who does not know what is the best decision, but also the world."

He explained that without support from its allies, Israel would not be able to continue and defeat Hezbollah in the north, stressing that Israel itself would be harmed militarily.

He expressed his belief that it is in a very dangerous situation, pointing out that the continuation of this situation indicates a lack of national responsibility from a security point of view and in general.

He added, "If we do not solve the problem in the south (Gaza), it will not be possible to solve the situation in the north, not even politically, and the United States will not exert pressure in this direction. America does not work for Israel, but it has dealt with it so far, but it does not agree to Israel's policy,” explains the Israeli general.

When answering a question about whether Israel intends to convince America of the necessity of carrying out action in Rafah, he said, “No, we ourselves are not convinced.”
