The election campaign of US President Joe Biden denounced the statements of his rival, former President Donald Trump, about the end of American democracy and his talk of a “bloodbath” if he does not win the upcoming elections, and considered them threats of political violence.

The Biden campaign issued a statement in which it described Trump as a loser in the 2020 elections and “insists on his threats of political violence,” stressing that Trump wants to repeat what happened on January 6, 2021, but the American people will suffer another electoral loss next November. “Because they still reject his extremism, his penchant for violence, and his thirst for revenge,” referring to the events of the storming of Congress.

"If I'm not elected, it will be a bloodbath for the entire country," Trump said during a campaign rally in Ohio on Saturday.

However, this warning came in the context of his talk about the automobile industry and the losses of the American economy, which made the matter open to interpretation.

Reuters said that when the Trump campaign was asked what he meant by this phrase, it referred to a post by a New York Times journalist on the X platform in which he said that the phrase “bloodbath” came in the midst of talk about the automobile industry and the American economy.

But Trump stressed in another part of his speech that, “If we don’t win this election, I don’t think you will have another election in this country.”

Trump - who faces criminal charges in the state of Georgia over allegations of trying to overturn the result of the 2020 elections - last week won a sufficient number of delegate votes in the primary elections to secure the Republican Party's nomination to run in the presidential elections.

The second contest between Trump and Biden is likely to be very close.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted earlier this March showed that the two candidates were statistically equal in terms of support among registered voters.
