In Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the first meeting of the prefecture's third-party committee was held to verify the response of the child guidance center at the time of the death of two young siblings who were left in a car.

Our policy is to summarize verification results and measures to prevent recurrence by the end of the fiscal year.

In July this year, a 2-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son who were left in a car in Atsugi City died, and a 22-year-old mother was indicted for abandoning a guardian to death.

About three weeks before the incident, the mother left her eldest son in the car in the parking lot of a commercial facility, and the police notified the child guidance center. It was the day after the incident, and the phone was not connected.

In order to investigate in detail whether the response at that time was appropriate, the prefecture set up a third-party committee, and the first meeting was held on the 15th.

Four members of the committee, including a lawyer and a pediatrician, attended the meeting, and Mikako Arakida, vice president of Kawasaki City College of Nursing, who serves as chairman, said, "This is a truly painful case, and I would like to make a proposal that will lead to a thorough investigation and prevent recurrence." said.

In the future, the committee plans to conduct hearings with child guidance centers and summarize the verification results and measures to prevent recurrence by the end of the fiscal year.
