During the past week, the Sweden Democrats' group leader Henrik Vinge (SD) has accused Sydsvenskan of scaring children with incorrect reporting about imminent rejection and withdrawal of residence permits.

In an interview with the newspaper, he also urged the reader to stop reading Sydsvenskan.

- I think above all that it indicates ignorance.

It sounds like he hasn't really understood what role investigative journalism and journalism in general have in a democratic society, says Jonas Kanje, editor-in-chief at Sydsvenskan to Kulturnyheterna.

But the criticism also comes from elsewhere within the party.

Riksdag member Elsa Widding (SD) calls SVT's climate journalism scaremongering in a YouTube clip and singles out an individual journalist who was involved in the publication.

Tobias Andersson (SD), chairman of the economic committee, and Richard Jomshof (SD), chairman of the justice committee, direct harsh criticism on Twitter against publications made by the left-wing newspaper Dagens ETC as they believe that these do not correspond to reality.

The Minister of Culture: "Unfortunate to criticize in that way"

When the recently appointed Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) comments on SD's actions, she says that it is not her job to review other parties' policies and statements.

At the same time, she believes that the party's tone is not optimal.

- I think it is unfortunate that people choose to criticize in that way.

I think that we all, both in Sweden's Riksdag and in the cooperation government, have a responsibility.

Standing up for free speech also applies to all types of media, she tells Kulturnyheterna.

Sweden Democrats - "democracy is based on open conversation"

Kulturnyheterna has sought out the Sweden Democrats who choose to comment on the criticism with a written comment:

- A healthy democracy is based on open conversation, then you have to find yourself being criticized from time to time, this also applies to the cultural world and the media in general, writes press manager Oskar Cavalli-Björkman (SD) in an email to Kulturnyheterna.

Kulturnyheterna seeks the Sweden Democrats for a comment.
