The party leader's move has led to many reactions, including from the state section of Rosengård in Malmö. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) has criticized the proposal, and Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson wants SD officials to be fired from the Government Offices.

According to political scientist Anders Sannerstedt at Lund University, Jimmie Åkesson wants to convey that it is the Sweden Democrats who want to own the issue.

"On the one hand, it's intended for your own party and your own supporters – they should cheer a little. On the one hand, it is intended to talk about the Sweden Democrats and what Åkesson has said.
