The situation in hospitals in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is becoming critical.

This Friday, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) announced the deprogramming of all non-emergency medico-surgical activities in hospitals in the region, to deal with the coronavirus epidemic.

The objective, recalls the ARS in a press release, is to increase the capacity of intensive care beds to 850 beds (against 760 currently) in the region, as well as that of medical beds.

Nursing staff will also be redeployed to "strengthen critical care units, including between public and private structures", as part of the activation of this "fifth level" of the crisis management plan.

Deprogramming in Marseille since Thursday

Operations that cannot be postponed in oncology, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, voluntary terminations of pregnancy (abortions), transplants and samples, will be maintained.

In Marseille, public hospitals were already deprogramming two thirds of operations on Thursday.

Of the 90 block rooms of these hospitals, only 30 remain open, detailed to a spokesperson for the AP-HM (Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Marseille).

There is no service more affected than the others: "Doctors do the benefit / risk balance" according to the patient and each medical file, added the same source.
