In Japan, animal rights laws clash with certain traditions. In Taiji Bay, hundreds of cetaceans are held in small spaces. For the

Life Investigation Agency

association

,

this situation is intolerable: “Because of the Covid-19, captive dolphins are not sold. Every day new dolphins are captured and locked up here. Those not kept for aquariums will be killed. These dolphins, pilot whales and other cetaceans are captured in the wild and sold for their meat or to water parks for shows. This controversial fishery limits catches to a total of 1,849 individuals for the year 2021-2022.

The association wishes to raise awareness: “France recently announced a new bill prohibiting the use of wild animals.

Aquariums and dolphin shows will continue to close with this global trend.

Japan should also stop dolphin shows now and ban the capture of all wildlife.
