Less than a day before what used to be at least one of the biggest celebrations of the year, New Year's Eve, the incidence once again reaches its historical maximum since the pandemic began back in March 2020. The autonomous communities have notified this Thursday to the Ministry of Health

161,688 new cases

of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Thus, in the middle of Christmas holidays, the total number of infections in Spain already rises to 6,294,745 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics.

The accumulated incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at

1,775.27 compared to 1,508.39 on Wednesday

and in the past two weeks a total of 842,382 positives have been registered.

In addition, in the report of this Thursday and last of the year,

74 new deaths

have been added

.

Up to 89,405 people with a positive diagnostic test have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to data collected by the Ministry.

If this situation is compared with that of 2020, just a year ago, just one day away from New Year's Eve, the incidence was

more than 1,000 points lower than today.

However, hospitals were more saturated with more than 11,000 people admitted to the ward for this disease and more than 2,000 receiving intensive care due to the virus.

Even so, the situation in Spanish hospitals has worsened a bit since Wednesday.

Currently, there are

10,768 patients admitted

for COVID-19 throughout Spain (10,411 on Wednesday) and 1,803 in the ICU (1,773 on Wednesday).

In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,662 admissions (1,727 on Wednesday) and 1,323 new arrivals (1,239 on Wednesday).

The

occupancy rate for beds occupied by coronavirus

stands at 8.81% (8.51% on Wednesday) and in ICUs at 19.42% (19.1% on Wednesday).

According to the overall occupancy of beds in hospitals, being greater than 5%, Spain would be a country at

medium risk.

However, if the occupancy in ICU is observed, being higher than 15%, this would indicate that Spain is at high risk.

VACCINATION PROGRESS

The slow drip of immunization continues once 89.9% of the target population has been reached with the complete regimen, which represents

79.8% of the total population

.

37,869,504 people have already received the complete guideline.

By age group, the group over 80 years old is the only one that reaches 100%, while

the group between 30 and 39 years old remains at 78.5%

, thus constituting the age group with the lowest percentage of vaccinated.

According to data from the Ministry of Health,

13,743,032 third doses

have already been administered

, 7,589,705 from Pfizer and 3,076,664 from Moderna.

These data show the additional doses in people over 40 years of age, essential workers or who have received Janssen.
