  • Stays, but also meals and activities, are offered free of charge to students in Anjou.

  • The operation scheduled until the end of March, which is very successful, could be extended.

"Keep morale up, come to the countryside!"

This is the name of an operation which has met with great success in recent days in Anjou.

While students are experiencing the isolation, and sometimes the precariousness, linked to the health crisis more and more badly, tourist accommodation providers around Angers have decided to act.

"We are forced to continue heating our rooms when our activity is almost at a standstill," notes Maryline Hamon, who runs guest rooms in Blaison-Gohier.

On the other hand, we have young people sometimes far from their families.

When we see the situation of some, who go so far as to defenestate themselves, we could not stand still.

"

In a few days, this solidarity idea has snowballed.

About twenty tourist lodges, campsites or other accommodation in the sector have responded to open their doors free of charge to students and apprentices, for one, two or three nights.

Some go even further by offering to offer breakfast or even a meal.

“I have four young people arriving this Saturday, and they will have dinner at home in the evening, has already planned Maryline Hamon.

It will reboost them, while they are very concerned, by their internship research for example.

They can study quietly in their room, go hiking or cycling.

They can also be accompanied by car to activities if they wish.

”Winegrowers but also the Angers golf course are indeed partners in the operation.

They offer workshops and initiations, again free.

The operation could be prolonged

Since the beginning of February, nearly forty stays have already been made.

But demand is very strong, while the Anjou Vignoble et Villages tourist office, which coordinates the system, has already received nearly 200 registrations (nearly 400 young people, many registering for two).

“The operation was supposed to end at the end of March but we are considering extending it before customers come back, we hope, in May or June,” indicates Aurélien Debomy, the director.

In the meantime, it is very exciting for us but also for the students.

Some have been studying in Angers for three or four years and had never visited the surroundings!

They will then perhaps be very good ambassadors of the territory.
