After two decades on TVE , the journalist Pilar García Muñiz (Madrid, 1974) leaves the television set to get into the radio studio. "I had the need to do new things and reinvent myself," he says in an interview with this newspaper. She is one of the main novelties that brings the new radio season: this course accompanies Carlos Herrera in the informative section of his morning Herrera in Cope (from 06.00 to 10.00 each morning) with the illusion of the fan - "it is a very medium I am especially passionate about "-, the safety of the veteran -" taking on challenges is always positive and stimulating "- and the modesty of the newcomer -" I am in the process of learning "-.

"I studied journalism because I wanted to work in radio and do sports , but in the end the television crossed my path and there I have been 20 years," he explains about a change of medium that has surprised some in the sector. "I have consumed a lot of radio since I was a child. It is a medium that I know well as a listener and now I have to know it well as a professional," he says.

His departure from public television occurs during the stage in which the sole provisional administrator Rosa María Mateo is in charge of the corporation, but García Muñiz disconnects his departure from this circumstance. "I have always had a good relationship with the different addresses of TVE and now I had the absolute confidence of the director of information services [ Begoña Alegría ]," he says. "They counted on me for new projects and I told them no," he adds.

With the arrival of the new management team to the public corporation, García Muñiz left his post on the Newspaper to move on to submit a weekly report . "I am clear that the positions in this profession are not life-long," says the journalist who during her career has been at the forefront of programs such as direct Spain or more people and has presented from political debates, to musical galas or the San Fermín confinements.

We are in a profession that allows us to do new things and change. The positions are not lifelong

"Fortunately we are in a profession that allows us to do different things and change positions and that helps us to grow," he adds before insisting that behind his departure from TVE there is no disagreement with the current leadership. "When you have been in a medium for 20 years, it is normal that you feel like changing and doing new things," he reiterates.

After developing almost his entire career in a public environment, García Muñiz now goes to the private sector. "Journalism is the same," he says. "I will continue to report in the same way as until now," he adds: "I will not take sides in any news, but I will offer views and I will be critical. My goal is for citizens to be well informed and that through the information they reflect, ask themselves questions and understand the environment better ".

On the evolution of journalism in recent years and the evils lurking the profession today, García Muñiz recommends quarantining social networks. "I think that sometimes they can contaminate the profession a lot," he says. He justifies it with an example: "When you are sick you go to the hospital and you like being treated by a doctor. I think that journalism has to be exercised by journalists." And sentence: "You have to look carefully at what is published on social networks, who publicizes it and give credibility to those who deserve it ."

Pilar García Muñiz will not only accompany Carlos Herrera in the informative and current analysis work in Herrera in Cope (2,492,000 listeners in the last EGM), but will replace him at the helm of the program when he is absent. In addition, its contract leaves open the possibility of the journalist participating in other projects of the station or the group that has the 13TV television channel.
