In the process test and welding technology research of special materials in the early stage of the construction of the "Fujian Ship", Chen Jingyi led a number of welders to complete the segmented construction of the "Fujian Ship" simulator, successfully broke through the high-efficiency welding technology of a variety of high-strength steel of the "Fujian Ship", and successfully applied it in the construction of the actual ship, which increased the welding efficiency of the high-strength steel of the hull structure by 2-3 times, which not only greatly shortened the construction cycle of the Fujian ship, but also made the ship save nearly <> million yuan in welding consumables and labor costs in terms of construction costs.

In the construction of "Nanchang ship", Chen Jingyi innovated the process flow, strictly controlled the assembly gap and accuracy of important equipment, adopted more than 10 welding processes and nearly 20 types of tool tooling, successfully controlled the construction accuracy and strength requirements of the equipment, and completed the production of key structures with high quality and efficiency, providing a technical basis for the production of similar structures of subsequent series of ships.

For Chen Jingyi, he still remembers the "most difficult hurdle" in his work: when simulating the structural welding process of a national strategic product, due to the narrow position of the frame space and the weld to achieve 100% nondestructive testing, he thought of the method of carrying a rotating frame and placed a cylindrical head with a diameter of 3 meters here. Chen Jingyi erected 3 I-beams on the smooth surface, repeatedly "cut" and then welded, which played a role in reaction force and reduced the probability of deformation in the welding process. After 1 month of welding, it was finally completed, and it became his longest "work". "It's hard, it's hard, but I have to do this craft well."

While actively carrying out the application of new technologies, the promotion and application of operating standards and patents led or participated in by Chen Jingyi has also improved the technical level of the construction of national heavy weapons.

Chen Jingyi said that the work of electric welding is dirty and tiring, but welding is a "beautiful and wonderful art" that must be seen in the details. "Personally, I chose welding out of my desire for stable work and curiosity and interest in the technology."

In 1989, Chen Jingyi came to Shanghai to become a "Shanghai drifter", and in 1990, he entered the Jiangnan shipbuilding machine assembly workshop and became a ship pipe welding apprentice. After more than a year of wandering, Chen Jingyi felt that this job was not easy to come by, and from the moment he entered the machine workshop, he secretly decided that he must learn the craft of welding.

At work, Chen Jingyi rushed to do whatever work he wanted, welded a pipe, took the teacher to weld another pipe after passing the inspection, and rarely rested. Chen Jingyi's proactive attitude is deeply liked by the teachers, who provide technical guidance to him whenever they have time. In this way, his welding technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, and he can complete various welding tasks independently in less than two years.

Jiangnan shipbuilding has a long history and has always had the habit of inheriting masters and apprentices. "Craftsmen must not only be highly skilled, but also cultivate talents for future generations", this is the tradition inherited by Jiangnan Shipbuilding. Since his first participation in welding competitions in 1996, Chen Jingyi has participated in various domestic and international competitions for many times, won gold medals repeatedly, and transformed his experience of "gold winning" into results, cultivated a large number of welding high-skilled talents, and enjoyed a reputation inside and outside the industry. His apprentice Chen Yifeng won the first place in the 2012 "Jiake Cup" International Welding Competition, and won the title of "National Technical Expert" in the same year; Led apprentice Chen Guogan to the Czech Republic to participate in the 19th "LINDE Gold Cup" International Welding Competition, and won the first place in MIG/MAG gas shielded welding.
