As a tourism countermeasure for the corona disaster, it was found that the personal information of more than 10,000 applicants for the subsidized project implemented by the Japan Tourism Agency was leaked due to a setting error in the cloud service.

The information leaked was about a project that the Japan Tourism Agency started in March this year as a tourism countermeasure for the corona disaster, subsidizing the creation of products that make use of local tourism resources.



According to the Japan Tourism Agency, JTB, which serves as the secretariat of the project, made a mistake in setting access permissions for the cloud service that stores data related to the project, resulting in a total of about 1,700 application documents containing tourism strategy ideas. And information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. of up to 11,000 applicants, about 700 businesses selected for the project for three days from May 24th to 26th, It said it was available for download.



An analysis of access records revealed that a total of 18 businesses had downloaded such information, but had already deleted it.



The Japan Tourism Agency said, ``We will provide thorough guidance on the strict and appropriate management of personal information so that such a situation does not occur in the future.''
