Energy crisis: tariff shield, emergency measures... What will Elisabeth Borne announce?

RTE, the electricity network manager, will present its outlook for next winter on Wednesday.

GRTgaz will do the same for gas.

For her part, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne will present this Wednesday the main lines of the tariff shield for the year 2023. How not to inflame the household energy bill without weighing down the State budget?

It will be an equation to solve.

Even if the government will make sure to reduce the rise in prices, the French will still see their bills increase.

+12 euros for electricity, +20 euros for gas

The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, reiterated this again on Tuesday: "The increase will be contained".

But that doesn't mean there won't be a hike.

For the executive, it is a way of encouraging energy sobriety since concretely, if the increase is around 15%, the annual electricity expenditure of a household will increase by 140 euros.

For comparison, Bercy constantly reminds that it would be 120 euros per month without any tariff shield.

So expect, from January 2023, a monthly increase of a dozen euros for electricity and around 20 euros for gas.

The tariff shield maintained... but for the most precarious

The tariff shield will be less protective so as not to weigh only on the state budget and will be oriented towards the most precarious.

There will always be an energy voucher, the criteria for obtaining which will be extended.

And then, of course, there is the fuel expense.

The boost at the pump should not be extended beyond December 31 to be replaced by this famous "big wheeler" device envisaged for months.

Clearly, help only those who have no choice but to take their car to work.
