Legislative elections in Iran: low participation expected in the double ballot on March 1
According to the still unofficial results, some 41% of Iran's 61 million voters took part in the double vote on Friday March 1 to elect the 290 deputies of Parliament and the members of the Assembly of Experts, a body responsible for choosing the successor of the current supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after his death.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi (our photo), despite the low participation, praised the “presence” of the nation at the polls and “a new historic failure inflicted on Iran's enemies after the riots” of 2022. AP

No official figures have yet been provided by the authorities on the participation rate, but according to conservative media, only 41% of voters took part in the vote.
In Tehran, capital of Iran
,
where the battle is more political, participation was only 24% according to a press agency close to the conservatives.
Low participation
This is one of the lowest rates since the victory of the Islamic Revolution 45 years ago.
The deterioration of the economic situation with inflation of more than 40%, the disqualification of moderate candidates and the protest movement a year and a half ago after the death of Mahsa Amini, arrested for poor respect of the Islamic veil, had a strong impact in abstention.
Conservatives and ultra-conservatives in control
According to the official provincial results, the conservative candidates largely won.
In Tehran, moderate candidates only come in fortieth position and will not be part of the 35 elected officials in the capital.
The conservatives and ultra-conservatives are thus assured of controlling the next Parliament and the Assembly of Experts.
