The first earthquake occurred at a depth of 18 km. the Epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean, 122 km south-east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district.

The second earthquake occurred at a depth of 3 km. Its epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean, 114 km east of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district.

On May 1, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that seismologists recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 off the islands of the Japanese Ryukyu archipelago.

On May 2, the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that a swarm of earthquakes had been observed on the Shiveluch volcano in the Kamchatka Territory for several days and a new lava dome was growing.
