On Tuesday evening, the “Celtic Roman Museum” in Manching, Upper Bavaria, used the coins to attract visitors: “Experience an exciting journey through time.

and discover the largest known Celtic hoard of gold and the best-preserved Roman boats north of the Alps!” But the art investigators from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) had been in the house all day to secure evidence: because it has been clear since Tuesday that thieves Stolen 483 gold coins from the museum, dating to around 100 BC.

First of all, the police received an emergency call early in the morning, as Fabian Puchelt, spokesman for the LKA, said on Tuesday evening.

A police patrol then drove to the museum.

However, since it is a matter of stolen cultural property whose value exceeds 3000 euros, the LKA is responsible.

So the art investigators went out, questioned witnesses and secured fingerprints, DNA traces and tire tracks.

What exactly indicates a burglary, Puchelt did not want to comment on.

"That is the knowledge of the perpetrators." What is certain, however, is that the burglars "illegally" entered the building.

The glass case with the coins had been smashed.

The investigators are also checking whether there is a connection to another case in Manching.

On Tuesday night, strangers broke into the technical room of a mobile phone provider and severed several fiber optic cables.

The phone and internet connections of thousands of people were cut off.

One can only speculate whether this act led to the failure of the alarm system in the museum and was therefore due to the burglars, said Puchelt.

“First of all, we have to clarify how the security systems are connected.

We don't rule out that there's a connection, but we can't confirm it either."

One can only speculate about the possible fate of the loot: will the thieves melt down the coins, which have a collector's value in the "low single-digit million range", as quickly as possible?
