Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, which is a specialty of green onions, is calling for gifts of "green onion bundles" instead of bouquets to convey gratitude with green onions on "Labor Thanksgiving Day" next week.
Fukaya City has designated November 23rd, Labor Appreciation Day, as Fukaya Negirai Day in order to promote the special product, Fukaya green onions.
On the 15th, city officials visited Fujisawa Elementary School in the city and called on them to give green onions to their families and other important people on "Negirai Day".
Then, together with the children, we put Fukaya green onions in a bag decorated with ribbons and stickers to make a “bundle of green onions” rather than a “bouquet”.
The children give a "bundle of green onions" to their loved ones along with a letter expressing their gratitude.
One of the girls who participated said, "I will say thank you to my dad and give him a green onion. I want to enjoy a delicious green onion dish with my family."
On November 23rd, "Fukaya Negirai Day", about 20 places in Fukaya City, including supermarkets and farmers' markets, will sell "green onion bundles."
