The American National Academy of Art and Science of Recording, the organizer of the Grammy Award, appreciated the work of the Otyken group from Siberia, which includes representatives of the small peoples of Russia (Chulyms, Selkups, Keto and others).

The group with the song Genesis and the video clip shot for it took part in the Global Spin project, a series of performances dedicated to music from around the world.

The numbers of the selected teams are published on the official website of the Grammy and on the YouTube channel of the award.

Otyken producer Andrey Chernetsov on his Vkontakte page noted that the Grammy organizers were the initiators of cooperation - the band itself did not contact them.

At the same time, according to him, the organizers were "directly ordered not to take anyone from Russia", but they "went at odds with the US government."

In an interview with RT, he said that the organizers "did not have a choice", since the group's songs are played in the USA, Japan and other countries.

“They had to invite us to participate in their program,” Andrey Chernetsov said.

The producer noted that the collaboration was planned in the summer, but then this did not happen for political reasons.

“They were supposed to accommodate us back in August, but the US government forbade them ... I myself am Russian and I am a songwriter, including Genesis.

In the end, they found a way out by presenting us as participants from Siberia.

What's the difference, anyway, everyone knows that Siberia is Russia, ”says Chernetsov.

Otyken is sung in Khakass, Chulym and Russian.

In their work, they combine modern musical trends - R&B, Dance, House - with ethnic elements.

Among them are throat singing, playing the harp, morin khur and deer skin drums, spontaneous vocals.

"The central aspect for this song and the rest of the band's work is an emotionally evocative acquaintance with music that has been coming from the Siberian mountains for generations," they write about the band on the Grammy website.

The stage images of the artists are also very colorful - their costumes use animal skins, as well as wolf fangs and mammoth tusks.

The team itself positions its work as a "primitive performance" capable of "healing the body and soul" and immersing listeners in a trance.

“Immerse yourself in the exciting and legendary world of Siberian indigenous music with Otyken, a band that brings a rich musical heritage in a modern format.

Otyken's performances introduce listeners to traditional vocal styles and instruments, many of which fans have never met before,” the award organizers say.

The Global Spin project appeared in September 2021.

Participants included Cuban singer-songwriter Eme Alfonso, Nigerian rapper Candy Bleeks, Filipino singer Felip and others.

The organizers of the project set themselves the goal of "taking the audience on a journey around the world through music" and "shedding light on talented musicians around the world."

Andrey Chernetsov noted that participation in the Global Spin project for Otyken is tantamount to the fact that the musicians “jumped over Eurovision”, in which they were not going to participate.

Grammy is ten times higher than Eurovision, and we are glad that we did not have to participate in it.

The very atmosphere at the competition is unpleasant for us, ”concluded the producer.
