The 162nd edition of the Hospices de Beaune wine sales (Côte-d'Or), the oldest charity auctions in the world, promises to be abundant.

The 2022 vintage was very generous despite the summer drought, we learned on Tuesday.

The traditional Hospices de Beaune auction will take place on Sunday 20 November.

"Our 46 red vats are full," said Ludivine Griveau, manager of the 60 hectares of vineyards, at a press conference.

This 2022 edition should therefore approach the record number of pieces (828) put on sale in 2018, i.e. 828, for a revenue of 14.2 million euros.

Ludivine Griveau, manager of the Hospices de Beaune wine estate, gave a preview of the 2022 vintage with enthusiasm: "46 vats of red are filled, compared to 16 last year. It's a treat to have the vats full ".

Children's cause funded this year

"We have this time the quantity, in addition to the quality", rejoiced the director of the Hospices, François Poher.

The revenue from the sales is intended for the operating costs of the wine estate as well as the public hospital in Beaune and the nine nursing homes managed by the Hospices.

Since its foundation in the 15th century, the structure has run a hospital service thanks to donations from individuals, mainly in the vineyards: the sale of the wines produced allows it to operate.

The Hospices do not receive any public money.

Another piece of wine (228 liters), known as the "president's piece", is earmarked for another charity each year.

This year, it will be the children's cause.

Two associations will be chosen soon.
