The City of Reims (Marne) will pay tribute to Queen Elisabeth II, who died this Thursday at the age of 96.

Mayor Arnaud Robinet has announced that a street will bear the name of the Queen of England.

“Since February 6, 1952, Elizabeth II reigned.

With dignity, she embodied the United Kingdom.

She will remain a model of dedication, well beyond the countries of the Commonwealth.

A street in our city will salute the memory of the one who devoted her whole life to the Crown, ”wrote the elected official in an Instagram post.

The twin city with Canterbury

This decision is obviously approved by the inhabitants.

“Thank you for this great initiative, Reims, city of the coronations of the kings of France, thus pays tribute to Elisabeth II”, replied a user in comment.

As France 3 Grand Est explains, Queen Elisabeth II has never been to Reims.

But the city still has a special link with the United Kingdom since it is twinned with Canterbury, seat of Anglicanism.

“As head of the Church of England, the Queen had a special connection to Canterbury and its Archbishop.

Thought for our twin town and its inhabitants”, also indicated on Facebook Arnaud Robinet.
