The municipality of Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne) has decided to limit the speed to 30 km / h from September 1, report

Les Echos

.

The measure concerns all the arteries of the city, except three main axes which allow to enter the city.

For the mayor (UDI), Nicolas Méary, this decision aims to promote soft modes of travel, to reduce the carbon footprint and to limit the risks in the event of an accident, in particular between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The passage to 30 km/h was recorded by means of a municipal decree.

Signs indicating a 50 km/h limit are gradually being replaced and a tolerance is imposed on drivers for some time.

Other cities in the department

Some residents, interviewed by

Le Parisien

, are skeptical about this measure.

In Ris-Orangis, which has lowered the speed since 2017, we are however satisfied, as assured by the mayor (PS) Stéphane Raffalli in the Ile-de-France daily.

Like him, other city officials have bet on 30 km / h in the Essonne department in recent years: this is the case in Massy and Montgeron.
