The historic drought affecting France this year will change the schedule for sheep in Vaucluse.

Instead of returning to graze in their meadows, the herds will rather graze the grass of the orchards and vines this fall, reports France Bleu Vaucluse.

Direction the orchards

“Our meadows look like doormats”, testifies a breeder interviewed by the local radio.

“The spring was dry, we couldn't harvest fodder, the barns of Vaucluse breeders are almost empty.

There was a solution: take the animals to where the grass is literally greener.

Many herds will therefore be housed in the orchards and vineyards, where the trees have provided enough shade to protect the grass.

The return of the ewes, which are currently grazing in the Alps, is scheduled for October at the earliest.
