12,000 animals attacked in 2022

The version presented in September - criticized both by environmental organizations and by breeders - already provided for a simplification of the shooting protocols intended to kill wolves attacking herds, by eliminating for example the obligation for wolf scouts - officially responsible for managing the regulation of harmful species - to illuminate the animal before shooting.

It was also envisaged to open the "possibility of having two shooters on the simple defense shot or even three in an exceptional manner after authorization from the prefect". Representatives of breeders from the majority union FNSEA demanded a “radical change in the shooting protocol” to reduce the lupine population.

After disappearing for a while in France, the wolf reappeared in the early 1990s crossing the Alps from Italy, and its ranks gradually grew. Breeders deplored more than 12,000 animals attacked in 2022.
