$40 million.

This is the amount Brad Pitt paid to acquire his new property, reports

Capital

.

According to information from the

Wall Street Journal

, it is a villa located in the Carmel Highlands area, in California (United States).

This magnificent residence, named the DL James House, is the most expensive ever sold in this real estate sector.

The famous actor has never hidden his taste for architecture and houses with character.

The DL James House would have caught his eye because it was built in 1918 by the famous architect Charles Sumner Greene.

It was so named after the surname of its first owner, a writer and businessman.

Since 1999, the mansion has been owned by a limited liability company run by former financier Joe Ritchie.

His death, which occurred in February, led to its sale.

The DL James House is known to be one of Charles Sumner Greene's "masterworks", points out The Gamble House, a site dedicated to the architect's work.

A dealer in china, crystal and silver, DL James owned "a breathtaking plot of land atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean".

One day, he contacted Charles Sumner Green with the aim of building a vacation home there worthy of the Californian landscape.

Among other architectural specificities, each tile has been chipped by hand to give it a weathered appearance.

The window sills and door sills are made of white Vermont marble.
