According to US media reports, a cyber attack has apparently brought numerous computer systems to a standstill in Fulton County, Georgia. Telephony as well as Internet and intranet access in the office of District Attorney Fani Willis were also affected, as NBC and CNN consistently report on their websites. Willis has accused former US President Donald Trump and 18 other people in the trial over alleged fraud in connection with the 2020 election.

According to reports, communication systems throughout the administration are affected. Authority spokesman Robb Pitts announced at a press conference on Monday that it was “the result of a cybersecurity incident”. It is currently unclear when the systems will be available again. The investigation is still in its early stages. In response to a CNN request, the FBI said it was in contact with local authorities.

It was initially unclear whether the attack could have an impact on the trial against the former US president. According to Pitt, nothing was known about any possible disclosure of sensitive information about citizens or employees. "But we will continue to examine this matter carefully."

At the trial in Georgia, Trump is accused of wanting to subsequently falsify the election results in Georgia with his alleged co-conspirators. Among other things, prosecutor Willis refers to Trump's call to the returning officer in charge of the election in Georgia, Brad Raffensperger. The then president asked him to help him “find” the 11,780 votes he needed to win. In her indictment, Willis invokes the "Rico Act" against Trump and his alleged co-conspirators - a law that has often been used by the US justice system, for example to put mafia figures in prison.

Prosecutor Fani Willis is currently facing many attacks. The district attorney is accused of having hired a special prosecutor in the case with whom she allegedly had an affair. According to his own statements, Willis is confronted with a large number of racist hostilities. A while ago, Donald Trump mispronounced it at a campaign event and used the vulgar term "Fanny."
