SVT's Christmas drama A royal affair makes fiction of the so-called Haijby affair, where the restaurant owner Kurt Haijby was convicted of blackmailing the court after an alleged relationship with King Gustaf V. Now the authors Per E. Samuelson and Lena Ebervall think that the series plagiarizes their novel Your Majesty's unhappy Kurt.

"You get a little annoyed"

The authors have done solid research but also artistically processed the real Haijby affair.

In other words, the book is a mixture of fact and fiction where it is difficult for the reader to know what is true and what is not.

They now believe that the SVT series used their novel well, without asking.

- You get a little annoyed when you see that the series is based on our book in large and small, in all essentials and in the frame itself.

The very basic story with these personalities - the king, Kurt and Anna Haijby, Torsten Nothin - we have invented and filled in.

Anna Haijby's and Torsten Nothin's roles and personalities were not at all the same in reality.

In the video, you can see three examples that the authors believe are taken from the book.

"Created within our imagination"

Lena Ebervall is a researcher herself and says that the novel has a list of sources precisely so that other interested parties can do research.

The authors also do not mind that someone else makes their own fictional design of the Haijby affair.

- But if you do research, you have to go to the sources, not to our

novel

- which of course contains ideas that are created inside our imagination, says Lena Ebervall.

The authors: SVT should contact us

The authors say that they would have been happy to assist the creators of the series with legal and historical factual knowledge and advice if asked.

But at least they think they would have been asking if it is possible to use parts of the novel.

- I think with the result in hand that SVT had been obliged to contact us and ask.

Then of course we had said it was ok.

It's not that we want to quarrel or have money ... it's just that you as a writer are very disappointed.

Anna Croneman, program manager for drama at SVT, does not want to comment on the criticism but says that the book has not been included in the work at all.
