The German Weather Service (DWD) thinks heavy rain on the weekend is again possible.

It was still too early for an exact classification of the main areas of precipitation, it was said on Wednesday in Offenbach.

"But the German model chain in particular, with all the uncertainties in the Eifel region, indicates again heavy heavy rain."

The DWD predicts thunderstorms for Saturday.

15 to 25 liters of rain per square meter are "likely", 25 to 40 liters are "quite possible and larger amounts cannot be ruled out".

Currently, however, a high with a focus on the British Isles is determining the weather in Germany.

"However, since we are on the eastern flank of the center, cooler and sometimes more humid North Sea air can seep into the northern half," said Lars Kirchhübel from the weather forecast center.

"Accordingly, a friendly sun-cloud mix can often be observed there, which rarely brings a shower."

Towards the south, high "Dana" can dissolve the clouds and give the sun free rein.

This brings summer temperatures that can even rise above 30 degrees in some regions.

On the Upper Rhine and in the east as well as in the south-east, one or two hot days are ahead of the week.

"But already on Friday evening the weather change is announced from the southwest," said Kirchhübel.

The high is not strong enough to block upcoming lows.

It has to leave its place and move on to Eastern Europe.

Instead, a low over the eastern Atlantic and western France takes over the direction.

“On the front of the depression, warm, humid to hot air is pushed towards Germany from southwestern Europe,” the meteorologist explained.

According to the DWD, the low also drives vertical air circulation. The result: clouds pile up and again bring heavy showers and thunderstorms. The west and south are affected first. After that, the weather change can also be felt in the north and east.
