This Thursday is expected to be unseasonably warm. The German Weather Service (DWD) expects local highs of up to 18 degrees on the Rhine and Neckar. In the south it is expected to stay sunny and dry for longer between loose cloud fields - with mild temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees. This year's February was generally unusually warm, the DWD said.

It “could be one of the warmest in its class,” said meteorologist Adrian Leyser from the DWD in Offenbach. Although only half of the month is over, the current temperature deviation of around 6 degrees for February is astonishing.

For comparison: the warmest February months to date in 1990 and 2020 ultimately resulted in a deviation of 5 to 5.5 degrees. According to the DWD, there are no signs of a significant cold front, at least for the next few days. “The next wave of heat is beginning.”

Occasional sunshine in the east and southeast

On Friday night there will be a lot of clouds in the north and later also in the west, and it will occasionally rain. Otherwise, the forecast says it will be mostly cloudy, but mostly dry. Temperatures drop to 11 to 5 degrees, in the south and southeast to 5 to 0 degrees.

For Friday, the DWD predicted occasional sunshine in the east and southeast. However, rain and clouds move in from the west. It remains exceptionally mild with temperatures between 11 and 18 degrees. A weather expert said up to 18 degrees would be possible in the Reutlingen area on Friday.

It rains longer in the Alps on Saturday night. Otherwise, isolated showers will move across the south and east. According to the DWD, it will be windy and stormy at high altitudes and at sea.

Saturday will be similar: "Even on the weekend, despite the changeable weather, the temperatures still rise quite widely to values around or just above 10 degrees," said Leyser. The values therefore climb to up to 8 degrees in the north and up to 14 degrees in the southwest. Even at night, frost remains the exception.
