It is a common injury, which can spoil some walks.

The blister can be linked to untimely rubbing on the skin but also to sun burns.

To avoid them and treat them as well as possible, Doctor Brigitte Milhau gives his advice in the health column of Europe 1.

They can ruin a walk, a hike or a night out. Skin blisters, as uncomfortable as they are painful, are a nightmare for the feet. They can appear due to unwanted friction on the skin, but not only. They can also be linked to a sunburn. On Europe 1, Doctor Brigitte Milhau goes back to the origin of the blisters and indicates some good reflexes in order to avoid infection and to heal this injury as well as possible, without seriousness.

"The blister results in a blister which will be more or less extensive. It is a defensive reaction of the skin, which can be linked either to untimely friction caused by sporting activity or new shoes, or to a sunburn. In the skin there are different nerve endings, which will be activated by repeated friction. These endings are found in the surface layer of the skin and are sensitive to pressure. Thus, rubbing will cause pain , irritation or redness.

If the friction continues, and to protect the lower layers, the outermost layer of the skin will protect itself and lift, separating the space between the two.

The latter will fill with liquid to form a kind of protective cushion.

Avoid infection

The blister is harmless, but infection must be avoided.

If it is small, do not touch it but disinfect it.

If it is larger, it can be pierced with a sterilized needle to drain the liquid.

There is a risk that it will pierce or burst anyway, so it's best to do it yourself.

The most important thing is to disinfect the area well and to apply a bandage, to be changed every day during the healing period.

If you haven't had time to pierce it yourself, it will take longer to heal.

A scab will form, tear off and cause bleeding.

Which is longer and more painful.

The ideal remains prevention: no unsuitable shoes and react as soon as you feel discomfort, before the blister sets in. "
