In English, the trilogy has been published by Penguin Classics and received rave reviews in both The Guardian and The New York Times.

In Sweden, "Gift" came in a new translation a couple of years ago, and this autumn the trilogy's two previous books, "Childhood" and "Youth", will also be published in a new translation by Vanja Lantz.

Now the novel "Gift" will be dramatized by May el-Toukhy and Maren Louise Käehne, states Danmarks Radio.

The duo previously made the acclaimed film "Ladies' hearts" about a middle-aged woman who begins a sexual relationship with her 17-year-old stepson.

This time they take on the Danish author and according to Maren Louise Käehne, "Married" is Ditlevsen's most important work.

- It is an extremely unsentimental book, it goes straight on and hard.

That is why it is so well suited to be filmed, says Maren Louise Käehne, who describes Ditlevsen as "very modern" in the division she experiences as a human being.

- She wants everything: love, freedom, career and children.

But every time she gets it, it is a lack of her that makes her drawn to destroying everything.
