50 volunteers from the community service team of Emirates International Aluminum Company, the largest industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector, participated in the campaign to clean the long beach of the company in preparation for the nesting of the endangered hawksbill turtles.

Since 2011, about 100 hawksbill turtles laid their eggs on the shore of the Emirates International Aluminum Company site in Taweelah, which led to the hatching of about 7,000 small turtles during that period.

During the campaign, which was organized in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Center for Waste Management (Recycling), the company's employees collected 450 kilograms of waste, which included plastic bags, glass bottles, lids and food packaging.

For his part, CEO of Emirates International Aluminum Company, Abdul Nasser bin Kalban said: "Cleaning the beach is one of the ways in which we preserve the wildlife. We also feel the responsibility towards the hawksbill turtles that have been nesting on our shores for several years."

The company’s sustainability team is keen to monitor the nesting patterns of the turtles during the assigned season, and takes the necessary protection measures for nests, most notably the safe passage of small turtles to the sea.
