Crowds of Palestinians scrambled on Monday to obtain some of the aid that entered the Gaza Strip by land or was dropped from the air, at a time when more deaths due to hunger were recorded.

Special photos obtained by Al Jazeera showed a large number of Gaza City residents scrambling to get bags of flour from an aid truck that arrived on Al Rashid Street.

Large numbers of residents also gathered at some points on the beach in an attempt to obtain food aid that the Jordanian army dropped by air onto the coast of the Gaza Strip.

Video clips showed displaced people gathering on the beach west of Deir al-Balah (central Gaza Strip), and Palestinians on boats picked up Jordanian aid boxes.

According to activists, Jordanian aid fell on the coast of the central and northern governorates and did not include the northern areas of the Strip most affected by the food crisis.

The population's stampede for aid comes amid a severe food scarcity due to Israeli obstacles to the entry of aid, and in light of international warnings of a real famine in the northern areas of the Gaza Strip.

Recently, there have been reports of residents in the northern Gaza Strip resorting to grinding animal fodder to survive.

Limited quantities of food enter Gaza, at a time when about two thousand aid trucks are accumulating on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing.

Death of a baby girl

Meanwhile, lack of nutrition and poor health services in Gaza City caused the death of a Palestinian girl with special needs.

Medical sources stated that the girl died as a result of the lack of health care and the lack of food intended for her condition as a result of the war.

The authorities in Gaza and activists confirmed the death of Palestinians, including children, due to hunger.

Famine warnings

Meanwhile, warnings are repeated internally and internationally about the spread of famine in the Gaza Strip, and calls are also increasing for the rapid introduction of sufficient amounts of aid.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said today that “the international inability and American cover for the crime of starvation that the occupation uses as a weapon to achieve political goals are a disgrace to humanity that will not be erased by history.”

The movement added that the US administration's cover-up behind what it described as misleading statements about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip will not absolve it of its responsibilities and participation in war crimes committed against defenseless civilians.

Internationally, French President Emmanuel Macron said today that the people of Gaza need very large humanitarian aid, calling for all crossings to be opened without delay.

The Austrian Foreign Minister also told Al Jazeera Mubasher that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is very critical, and that the European Union would like to see an end to the conflict.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that supplies entering Gaza decreased by 50% this month compared to last January, noting that the continuation of Israeli military operations leads to continued high rates of severe malnutrition.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his speech before the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the situation in the Gaza Strip is very dangerous given the number of victims and the scarcity of aid.

For his part, President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis said during the opening of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are on the brink of famine and are threatened by an imminent health catastrophe.
