"Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the doll of automatic memories" by Haruka Fujita - Eurozoom

  • "Violet Evergreen: Eternity and the doll of automatic memories" is the first feature film to come out of Kyoto Animation studios after a deadly fire.
  • This very feminine counter is a marvel of poetry.
  • This animated film was originally only to be released on VOD, but its distributor decided to show it in theaters.

On July 18, the animation company Kyoto Studios was the victim of an arson attack which killed 36 people. Violet Evergarden: Eternity and Haruka Fujita's doll of automatic memories is the studio's first feature film to be released after the tragedy.

The heroine, who was a formidable fighter, has recycled herself into an “automatic memory doll”, a writer responsible for helping those who need it to put their feelings on paper. She must also serve as a tutor to a depressed heiress and manage a sensitive little girl. These female characters touch by their sensitivity.

Like an air of reality

The work involves a painful experience for the heroine, a veteran recruited into the army since adolescence. She discovers the emotions that she had to repress for a long time. It is impossible not to draw a parallel with the reconstruction of the studio in front of this moving poem filmed when we see it struggling to reinvent itself. Akiko Takase's novel inspired a series broadcast on Netflix before being transferred to the cinema. The film was finished the day before the deadly fire.

An outing as a tribute

The feature should have only been released on VOD. Eurozoom, who had collaborated with the Kyoto Animation studio for the magic Liz and the blue bird by Naoko Yamada (available on DVD and Blu-ray), has decided to release Violet Evergarden indoors for several dates throughout France. "It seemed important to us to meet French fans on the big screen," said the distributor in a press release. A good way to pay tribute to the victims whose names are mentioned in the end credits.
