  • Today, “La Tempête des Echos” by Christelle Dabos appeared on November 28, 2019 at Éditions Gallimard Jeunesse

Anne-So Echos de Mots, youth literary blogger and contributor to the reading group "20 Minutes Books", recommends La Tempête des Echos, fourth and last volume of La Passe-Miroir by Christelle Dabos, published on November 28, 2019 by Éditions Gallimard Youth.

His favorite quote:

“Passing the mirrors requires asking to confront yourself. It takes guts, you know, to look straight into the mirrors, to see yourself as you are, to dive into your own reflection. Those who veil their faces, those who lie to themselves, those who see themselves better than they are, they can never. "

Why this book?

  • Because La Tempête des Echos closes an incredible series . Today, I will tell you about the series in its entirety and, I promise, you will not find any spoiler! The Passe-Miroir is not a nugget; it's a real little literary treasure for fantasy lovers. With the first volume - Winter Fiancés - Christelle Dabos won the First Novel Competition organized by Gallimard Jeunesse, RTL and Télérama. The talented author also received the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire in 2016.
  • Because Christelle Dabos does not just offer us a simple read: diving into La Passe-Miroir is offering yourself a confusing, exotic and exhilarating trip. You will start your journey on the Ark of Anima where Ophélie lives, a heroine overflowing with humanity and intelligence. The discreet young woman will be forced to marry Thorn and will have to follow this cold and distant man to the Pole; an icy and violent arch where the various clans of the nobility clash relentlessly.
  • Because by reading this series, you will discover complex characters with multiple gifts. Ophélie, the heroine, is a reader: by touching an object, she can know its past. It is also a mirror pass, that is to say that it can travel through them over reasonable distances. The magic atmosphere and the exotic and sometimes confusing universes can, at the beginning, recall the universe of Harry Potter. However the series stands out very quickly and offers us a plot and a much more adult and darker universe.
  • Because the plot, precisely, is brilliantly put together. Through the four volumes of this wonderful adventure, the reader and the heroes will face many mysteries ... which will often remain intact until the end. The author never goes where you expect and it's absolutely delicious. The reader can only let himself be carried away and surprised by the turn of the events interwoven between them in an intelligent and surprising way.
  • Because with an imagination which seems without limit, a brilliant pen and an undeniable talent to wander its readership, it only took a few chapters to Christelle Dabos to impose itself on me as an author to read absolutely. La Passe-Miroir has won over a huge French audience and has also been very successful across the Atlantic.

The essential in 2 minutes

The plot. Ophélie must leave the ark where she grew up to follow Thorn, the man to whom the Doyennes decided to betroth her, on the Citacielle, capital of the Pole. Between nobility, manipulation, betrayal and intimidation, the heroine cannot count on herself to understand her new world.

Characters. Ophélie is a young woman who is calm, reserved and clumsy but very intelligent and who will have no choice but to learn to assert herself. Thorn is a cold and distant man who seems to hide a lot from him. Around them gravitate characters with many facets… Friends or enemies?

Places. The story takes place on the different arches that make up the Earth after it has been torn apart.

The time. The series takes place over several years; after Ophélie's engagement with the terrifying and enigmatic Mr. Thorn.

The author. Christelle Dabos is a French novelist born in 1980 on the Côte d'Azur. She signs, with La Passe-Miroir , a first series with resounding success (and deserved!).

This book was read with pleasure by Anne-So Echos de Mots, blogger specializing in children's and teenage literature. “For me, reading can be as much a personal pleasure in which one runs to take refuge as an excuse to exchange and meet other readers. I am a lover of words always interested in new discoveries. "
