You don't have to be Palestinian to care about what's happening in Gaza.

"This is a time to learn," Sarandon said. "A lot of people don't understand the context in which the October 7 attack happened. They don't understand the history of what's been happening to the Palestinian people for 75 years. So this is an opportunity to educate people if they can get an extended opportunity."

She added, "You do not have to be Palestinian to stand with the Palestinian people. You cannot be Palestinian until you understand that the slaughter of nearly 5,000 children is unacceptable. War crimes are committed every day, according to the United Nations and other humanitarian groups."

She concluded by saying, "If you can get past the tribal instincts that have divided us now for so long. It is time to have an open heart. It is time to be strong, and it is time for Palestine to be free."

On November 21, 2023, Sarandon participated in a pro-Palestine rally in New York, saying, “Anti-Palestinianism is tantamount to American brainwashing. People are questioning, people are standing up, people are educating themselves, people are moving away from the brainwashing that began when they were children.”
