Muhammad Shahrour was born in the Syrian capital Damascus in 1938, studied civil engineering in Moscow, and worked as a teacher of engineering at the University of Damascus, after obtaining a master's and doctorate in Ireland.
He started his research and writings on the Qur’an and Islam in the seventies, and he has many books and writings in this regard, including: “The Book and the Qur'an - Contemporary Reading 1910” (State and Society 1995).
