Professor of Tajweed and Qur’anic readings, Dr. Ayman Rushdi Suwaid, discusses in the program “Sharia and Life in Ramadan” the beginning of the revelation of the Great Qur’an to Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - and its codification and preservation, in addition to the wisdom of the arrangement of its verses and surahs.

The Great Qur’an is the word of God - the Almighty - revealed to the heart of the Prophet Muhammad - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - through the trustee of the revelation, Gabriel, peace be upon him. And God Almighty said in Surah Al-Hijr: “Indeed, it is We who have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it.”

As long as the Holy Qur’an is the word of God - as Dr. Ayman Rushdie continues - it is different from the speech of humans in all respects, and it is speech of the same type as the speech of the Arabs, but it is contrary to their speech, and for this reason some imams of the language said that Arabic speech is threefold: prose, poetry, and the Qur’an.

Immediately after the revelation of the Great Qur’an, the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - conveyed it to the nation, verbally and in writing, and not after a period or after years as some orientalists claim.

Regarding the arrangement of verses and surahs and the wisdom behind them, Dr. Ayman Rushdie confirms that the Holy Qur’an is the constitution of humanity, and therefore God - the Almighty - did not leave it to His servants to arrange it as they wish, and the nation has agreed that the arrangement of verses in one surah is arbitrary.

The last verse that Gabriel, peace be upon him, revealed to the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - came in Surah Al-Baqarah: “And fear a day when you will be returned to God; then every soul will be fully paid what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.” And Gabriel - peace be upon him - said, “Place it on the head of 280 of the cow.”

The surahs and verses are arranged by God - the Almighty - because there is no explanation for this amazing arrangement, and Muslims did not differ in the order of the verses and surahs, as Dr. Ayman Rushdi explains in his interview with the episode (3/25/2024) of the “Sharia and Life in Ramadan” program. .

The professor of Tajweed and Quranic readings confirms that the Holy Qur’an contains lights and secrets, and gives an example of the saying of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, “There are 30 verses in the Qur’an that defend their owner.” Surah Al-Mulk does not contain any evidence that it defends the servant who continues to recite it every day. He is placed in his grave. Likewise, Surah Al-Waqi’ah does not contain anything confirming that whoever continues to recite it will not be afflicted with poverty (want), as the Holy Prophet said.

The Holy Prophet also did not explain the meaning of the noble hadith, “This Qur’an was revealed in 7 letters, Shaf Kaf..”, nor did the honorable companions ask him about it.

Regarding the reason why Caliph Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq - may God be pleased with him - compiled the Noble Qur’an and it was not the Prophet - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - who did that, Dr. Ayman Rushdie explains that the completion of the revelation of the Noble Qur’an occurred shortly before the death of the Noble Prophet, and scholars said that he did not do so for fear of To reveal something new, highlighting that when the caliphate passed to Abu Bakr, Caliph Omar bin Al-Khattab - may God be pleased with him - proposed the topic of collecting the written Qur’an.

Abu Bakr - may God be pleased with him - chose Zaid bin Thabit to compile the Holy Qur’an, and said to him, “You are a sensible young man, and we do not accuse you, and you were writing the revelations to the Messenger of God.”

Zaid collected all of the Holy Qur’an except for two verses that he found written by a companion named Khuzaymah bin Thabit.

Zaid bin Thabit wrote the Holy Qur’an on pages of deer skin, and the pages remained with Caliph Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, then they were transferred to Caliph Omar, may God be pleased with him, then to the Mother of the Believers Hafsa bint Omar bin Al-Khattab, then they were transferred to Caliph Othman, may God be pleased with him.
