Comments by managers at the "Whirlpool" sign of washing machines not to use washing machines for fear of possible fires linked to a short circuit caused an uproar, according to the British "Mirror" website.

Washing machines made by Whirlpool were bound by nearly 3,000 fires, due to a manufacturing error.

The American company said it could not repair faulty models until January.

The company, which made a profit of 140 million pounds last year, offered an apology for the scandal and called for 519,000 "Indesit" and "Hotpoint" washing machines due to a defect in the door lock system.
