The packaging of the New Year's gift “Daifukume” begins at Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto November 22 16:09

At the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto, known as a famous place for plum blossoms, work began to wrap Daifuku Plum, a New Year gift made from berries harvested on the grounds, in Japanese paper.

“Daifukuume” is an auspicious product that can be enjoyed healthily during the New Year by drinking in hot water or tea.

It is made by salting the fruits harvested from the plum tree planted at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, the god of learning, Michimasa Sugawara.

The work of wrapping the berries of the plums began at the “Ume-donden” on the 22nd of the precinct, and Miko and his friends packed bags of 6 berries of the plums along with the white leaves behind the lucky charms used for shimeji and kagami mochi. Wrapped carefully with Japanese paper.

The woman who worked on the project said, “In a congratulatory year of the First Year, the vines harvested in the precincts of Tenjin were packed in hopes of longevity and happiness for everyone.”

Daifuku Ume means that approximately 30,000 bags will be prepared and will be distributed to worshipers starting next month for ¥ 700 per bag.
