The Kyoto mayoral election, which was a contest between newcomers for the first time in 16 years, was held on the 4th, and voting began at 7 a.m.

The candidates running for the Kyoto mayoral election, in order of filing, are all newcomers:


Mr. Kazuto Fukuyama (62), an independent and former vice president of the Kyoto Bar Association, which is supported by the Communist Party.



▽Yoshie Murayama (45), an independent and former member of the Kyoto City Assembly.



▽Mr. Masashi Ninoyu (44), an independent and former member of the Kyoto Prefectural Assembly.



▽ Mr. Koji Matsui (63), an independent and former Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, is recommended by the Liberal Democratic Party, Constitutional Democratic Party, Komeito Party, and Democratic Party of the People.



▽Yu Takaie (35), a businessman with various backgrounds.

This election will be the first time in 16 years that new candidates will compete against each other due to the retirement of incumbents.



During the election campaign, debates centered around support measures for education and child-rearing, countermeasures against ``overtourism,'' which causes various negative effects due to the concentration of tourists, and efforts toward fiscal reconstruction.



Voting for the Kyoto mayoral election begins at 7 a.m. and continues until 8 p.m., with some exceptions, and votes are counted on the same day.
