The White House condemned the use of lethal force and cut off communications against demonstrators in Iran.

"The United States supports the Iranian people in their peaceful protests against the regime that is supposed to lead them," the White House said in a statement. "We condemn the use of lethal force and the large pieces of communications used against demonstrators."

"Tehran has continued intolerance in its nuclear and missile weapons program and supported terrorism," the statement said.

The latest wave of protests erupted after the government in Tehran imposed fuel rationing measures and overnight raised the cost of gasoline as the Iranian economy faltered under US sanctions.
