SC Freiburg suffered a damper in the race for the European Cup places.

The team of coach Christian Streich lost a comfortable lead at the beginning of the second half of the Bundesliga and did not get more than 2: 2 (1: 0) against relegation candidate Arminia Bielefeld.

For East Westphalia, on the other hand, it is another important point in the table basement.

Janik Haberer (6th) and Woo-Yeong Jeong (46th) scored for the long-time better surprise team in the second half of the season.

The Breisgauer Streich would have loved to have given a belated gift for his tenth service anniversary at the end of December, but Masaya Okugawa (60th) and Bryan Lasme (87th) saved coach Frank Kramer's passionately fighting Bielefeld.

Streich had to convert his team to two positions before the winter break compared to the win against Bayer Leverkusen (2-1).

National player Nico Schlotterbeck and goalkeeper Mark Flekken tested positive for the corona virus, the duo was replaced by Benjamin Uphoff im Tor and Keven Schlotterbeck.

Uphoff looked bad on both goals.

The Freiburg team got off to a much better start to the football year 2022.

In front of 500 fans, the hosts built up the pressure from the start and quickly rewarded themselves for the committed initial phase.

Haberer scored after a corner from 16 meters.

The sports club played itself against passive Bielefeld players with straightforward attacks again and again in promising situations.

Streich's eleven missed, among other things, a picket shot from Jeong (15th) to add up early.

Because Arminia improved after around 20 minutes, an even game developed.

Andres Andrade (21st) and Okugawa (29th) caused danger at Bielefeld, but Freiburg always found their way forward via Jeong.

The South Korean (33rd) failed first himself, then prepared the conclusion of Roland Sallai (38th), in which Arminia keeper Stefan Ortega reacted outstandingly.

Freiburg got off to a lightning start after the break and extended Jeong's lead.

The decision for the much more active home team was missed shortly afterwards by Nicolas Höfler (57th).

Instead, Okugawa brought back the Arminia, SC keeper Uphoff made an unfortunate figure with the long-range shot.

The Freiburg team had to recover from the connection.

Although the previously superior Breisgauer came again dangerously in front of goal through Sallai (66th), the Bielefeld countered this with a passionate performance in the final phase.

Okugawa just missed (72nd).

In the closing stages, the guests lost their center-back duo Joakim Nilsson and Amos Pieper.

They bumped their heads and each wounded in the process.

Lasme then scored to equalize.
