The 28th matchday of the Bundesliga was all about the comeback: FC Heidenheim turned the game around against FC Bayern and won 3-2 (0-2) after being 2-0 down. VfL Bochum gave up a lead in stoppage time against 1. FC Köln and lost 1:2 (0:0). The bottom of the table, SV Darmstadt, lost 0:4 (0:1) at FSV Mainz 05. Leverkusen won 1-0 (1-0) at Union Berlin, RB Leipzig gave SC Freiburg no chance and won 4-1 (3-0).

This doesn't change anything in the table basement: Mainz is still in the relegation zone, one point ahead of FC, which in turn is eight points ahead of bottom team Darmstadt. Leaders Leverkusen are increasing the gap to Bayern and could already be champions on the next matchday.

It was a duel between two teams threatened with relegation who had been waiting for a sense of success since February: Bochum had not won five games in a row, Cologne had even remained winless in seven games in a row - but started the game with momentum. VfL keeper Manuel Riemann parried against Linton Maina (13th minute), Sargis Adamyan headed over the goal (14th). Shortly before the break, Eric Martel had the best chance for FC, two Bochum players prevented the ball from finding its way into the goal (45th + 1).

After the break there was a shock for Cologne: Bochum combined purposefully forward on the left side, Moritz Broschinski crossed flatly into the middle to Felix Passlack, whose deflected shot landed in the goal (53'). In stoppage time, Steffen Tigges headed a corner into the goal (90'+1), shortly afterwards Benno Schmitz crossed into the middle, Luca Waldschmidt rose highest and scored 2-1 with his head (90'+2) - the game was turned .

Four points from two games: Mainz had recently gained a bit of momentum and confirmed their improving form in the early stages. FSV striker Jonathan Burkardt gave his opponent a pass in the penalty area, but was denied by Darmstadt keeper Marcel Schuhen (5th minute). A little later, Jae-sung Lee failed to get a header onto the visitors' goal (10'). Lee was once again the focus of Mainz's deserved lead: the South Korean maneuvered the ball with his head and leg both artistically and involuntarily towards the post, where Andreas Hanche-Olsen quickly flicked the ball over the line (32').

Darmstadt made life difficult for themselves in the second half. Mainz pressed, Bartol Franjić played an inaccurate back pass, which Burkardt ran and passed to Brajan Gruda. The midfielder hit the ball under the crossbar to make it 2-0 (60'). In the final phase, Lee delicately sent a cross from a tight angle into the goal (80th), before he made the final score 4-0 with a shot from 16 meters (84th).

The championship written off - and with your head already in the quarter-final first leg in the Champions League against Arsenal London? A weakened FC Bayern Munich started powerfully in Heidenheim without initially creating any chances. The first big opportunity led directly to the lead: Harry Kane put the ball from eleven meters into the bottom left corner (38th minute) - his 32nd goal this season. A short time later, Serge Gnabry made it 0-2 with a header (45th).

At halftime, the spectators saw a rather unusual change. Referee Robert Schröder had to leave the pitch with circulatory problems and fourth official Patrick Alt took over.

Things continued even wilder after the restart: Heidenheim's Kevin Sassa (51') and Tim Kleindienst (51') equalized with a double strike within less than two minutes. Heidenheim then turned the game around completely. In the 79th minute, Kleindienst finished free-standing in the penalty area after a nice combination to take the lead. 0:2 becomes 3:2! After the defeat, Bayern are likely to have difficult days with a lot to discuss.

Leverkusen's high flight continues. The next victory followed the 4-0 gala performance in the cup semi-final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Bayer immediately took control of the Iron Men - and rewarded themselves shortly before half-time: first Union's Robin Gosens saw a yellow-red card, then Leverkusen received a penalty after a handball in the penalty area. Florian Wirtz safely converted it halfway into the left corner (45+8).

Leverkusen also had everything under control in the second half. The strong Union goalkeeper Rönnow repeatedly prevented the score from making it 2-0. In the final phase, Leverkusen took it easy and managed the lead. Being outnumbered, Union lacked the offensive power.

Leverkusen remains undisputed at the top of the Bundesliga table. With 13 points, the Rhinelanders still have a big lead over FC Bayern.

It only took 61 seconds for the guests to take the lead: After a low cross from RB striker Loïs Openda, Amadou Haidara converted at the first post with a direct shot in the left corner (2nd minute). It was supposed to be a show of force: A short time later, Openda escaped from the Freiburg defense after a long ball and made it 0-2 (18th), before increasing it to 0-3 shortly before the break. Little worked for Freiburg - Lucas Höler hit the crossbar with a hand penalty (41').

In the second half it became even clearer. Benjamin Sesko scored 0:4 (54th). Shortly afterwards, Freiburg managed to catch up thanks to Vincenzo Grifo (59').

With the win, Leipzig climbs back to fourth place thanks to the better goal difference - at least until tonight. Then BVB meets VfB Stuttgart in the top game and can move past them again with a point win.
