Mountain peaks in the canton of Valais

In Switzerland, a German touring skier has been caught in an avalanche and died. The accident occurred near Naters in the canton of Valais, police said.

She informed about last Friday's incident only now that the identity of the victim has been clarified. The 45-year-old had German citizenship and lived in Germany.

The man had been traveling with a friend at the foot of the Aletschhorn. The avalanche broke loose at an altitude of about 3300 meters and swept him away. Rescue workers were quickly on site after the alarm, but could only determine the death of the victim. According to the information, his companion was not swept away by the avalanche.
