Guangzhou, April 4 (Zhongxin Net) -- According to the Guangdong Forestry Bureau on the 24th, five painted ibises were recently found in a paddy field in Li Village, Xiegang Town, Dongguan. Once thought to be extinct in China, this is the first time Dongguan has been spotted in the wild.

It is understood that on April 4, bird photography enthusiast Cai Ruguang came to Songgangtou in Licun, Xiegang Town, Dongguan to photograph black-winged long-footed sandpipers, and suddenly found several large black birds in the distance, the shape was as big as a heron bird, so he quickly photographed them. It was confirmed that these big black birds were painted ibises.

Slender legs, long and downward curved mouth, long mouth sometimes inserted into shallow water to feed, sometimes inserted into hindwing to sort out feathers... From a distance, they look like plain "blackbirds", and when you look closely, their feathers emit a multicolored luster as they move their bodies, which is really amazing. Bird photography enthusiasts have heard about it.

According to experts from the Guangdong Forestry Bureau, the painted ibis belongs to birds of the order Ornithischia, Peliformes, Ibis and the Painted Ibis, its body is slender, the plumage is purple, the beak is like a machete, and the color of the plumage will change with the angle of light, hence the name "Painted Ibis". The painted ibis mainly inhabits warm rivers, lakes and swamps, and sometimes goes to rice paddies, and is gregarious, mainly feeding on small invertebrates such as aquatic insects, insect larvae, shrimp, crustaceans, and molluscs.

It is reported that the newly discovered painted ibis in Li Village, Xiegang Town, Dongguan City, belongs to traveling birds, passing through Xie Gang on the way to migration, because the food and environment of the rice fields in Li Village are suitable for their living needs, so these painted ibises choose to stay in the rice fields of Li Village to perch, and will migrate again after replenishing physical strength.

In recent years, a variety of rare birds such as the yellow-breasted bunting, black-faced spoonbill, oriental white stork, and painted ibis have been continuously discovered in Dongguan City. Dongguan has a variety of terrain and superior climatic conditions, giving birth to rich animal and plant resources, and constantly strengthening the protection of terrestrial wildlife habitats through planning and construction to protect habitats, integration and optimization to improve habitat quality, etc. At present, 329 species of birds have been observed and recorded by people in Dongguan.

Guangdong has always attached great importance to the protection of birds and other wild animals. In March this year, Guangdong Province launched the 3nd "Bird Festival" and "Bird Love Week" activities, with the theme of "Protect Wild Birds and Build a Green and Beautiful Guangdong", and launched various bird love and bird protection actions in many places in the province. The Guangdong Forestry Bureau also issued the Notice on Strengthening the Protection of Migratory Birds and Other Wild Animals and Plants in Spring, effectively promoting the protection of migratory birds and other wild animals and plants.
