• Health Now your bosses reward you for sleeping: why this company gives more vacations to employees who learn to rest

Few people understand the importance of a good rest for health, much less companies.

With the precise objective of

raising awareness and improving the sleep of its workers

, the Spanish subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company Otsuka (based in Barcelona) launched its Dreamland project, which rewarded employees who managed to improve their sleep with rest days, such as EL MUNDO already told in the presentation of the results.

A few weeks after that presentation, the company already had the final names of the winners.

On the one hand, they rewarded

seven workers who improved their sleep by 15%

with an additional day of vacation.

And two employees have achieved two days, one for that 15% improvement and the other for being the

absolute winners of the challenge

and having improved more than anyone else in

quantity

-this is the case of

Víctor Castaño-

and in

quality

-a modality won by

Montse Morales

-.

"On a personal level, it is true that you start to think a little and you realize things that you don't usually think about, you start to be a little more aware. I have two children, one seven years old and the other three, and my routine Before it was giving them dinner, putting them to bed and putting them to sleep and then having dinner and watching a series or whatever. I have changed that part,

now my partner and I have dinner with the children

, which is no longer at 10, but at 8-8:30, and everything is earlier. You finish packing up and you end up going to bed earlier. And then

instead of reading or watching the last season of Game of Thrones, well, I go to bed

and it's an hour of sleep that I earn instead of doing things that are nothing special either," Víctor Castaño, one of the absolute winners of the challenge, told EL MUNDO.

Apart from these winners, the general results of the project have been quite good,

managing to improve the quantity and quality of their rest for 83% of the participants

(87.5% did so in quantity and 82% in quality).

In addition, in the final survey that the company made to the employees who participated in the project, other interesting results were seen.

Of those who improved a minimum of 15%, they have seen other associated benefits: 46% improvement in rest quality satisfaction,

12% in memory, 17% in concentration, 13% in productivity

, 30% in energy levels in the morning, 29% energy levels at night and

23% stress reduction

.
