In Sweden, the right-wing writer Ivar Arpi is one of those who has taken the clearest stand against Drag story hour.

Among other things, he writes in a blog post that "drag queens do not belong in children's culture".

He tells Kulturnyheterna that the Drag story hour concept aims to break down norms and gender, and that it is about indoctrination.

- Children are placed in a context where they perceive that "here it is legitimate, here I am in a safe place".

Then it is precisely this "queer" ideology, which is not only about accepting different expressions, it is also about breaking down gender and sexuality so that children are encouraged to choose in a completely different way, says Ivar Arpi.

"A bizarre idea about our sexuality"

Ivar Arpi's criticism has in turn been noticed and criticized on social platforms and in various media, including Dagens Nyheter and Dagens ETC.

Johannes Klenell, the culture editor of the trade union journal Arbetets, believes that the debate that has arisen should not exist.

- Those who call this indoctrination, what do they think you should be indoctrinated into, to have fun?, says Johannes Klenell.

- It's some kind of bizarre idea about our sexuality as a fragile flower, which would be destroyed by a single meeting with a drag queen.

I think it is very strange that we are even having this debate in 2023, it is very strange.
