Can the Corderie file, the ancient quarry from which the first stones that built Marseille came out, bounce back again?

However, we thought the case was buried, with the publication last October of a call for tenders issued by the Ministry of Culture so that a company would take care of the burial of the site unearthed in 2017, thanks to of the construction of a residential building.

This Tuesday evening, a meeting takes place in the prefecture between the State services (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs) and the associations for the defense of the site.

However, the latter remain skeptical of a favorable outcome.

“I can't see them going back on what they said,” explains Guy Coja, from the Laisse Béton collective.

Sandrine Rolengo, and the geologist Michel Villeneuve, who studied the site located in the 7th arrondissement, are also in the game.

For its part, although absent from this meeting, the town hall recalls its opposition to the burial of this memory of Marseille and reiterates its proposal for a financial contribution to the enhancement of this archaeological heritage.

Citizen mobilization around this ancient site had been one of the founding fights of the Marseille Spring, which in the 2020 election won the municipality after 25 years of right-wing and Gaudin.
